I have been on this board for about a year now. I had another child to get in to school last year. Now I my J is ready to start thinking about schools. She is a rising senior with great stats. She is interested in math education as a major. I have not found any threads regarding any education. Is that dead as a career? Is that why our children need so many tutors?

Any suggestions of schools in the NE, from Maryland to Massachusetts would be appreciated.

Mbe, I'm surprised that no one has responded to your post, normally this is such a vocal group! In any case, for what it's worth, DD is rising senior at U. Delaware, majoring in Elem. Ed., and she has been very happy there. UD has a wonderful school of education, both elementary and secondary, and DD believes that she is getting a terrific education there. She has been working in elementary classrooms since first semester freshman year, and can't wait to do her student teaching in the spring. LOL, in her time there she has had both math and history profs try to convince her to change her major to their areas, but she's wanted to be an elementary teacher since she was in elementary school herself. She also wants to teach in an inner city school once she has her degree, since she believes that that is where dedicated teachers are most needed. DH and I are less than thrilled with this, but as DD says, if she can't do something like this when she's young and idealistic, when can she? I've been surprised at how many of DD's friends (and DS's friends as well) have decided to teach, so I guess I can't agree with your suggestion that education is a dead career. If it is, there are an awful lot of college students out there who are going to be very disappointed. Anyway, tell your daughter to check out UD on-line. I think she'll be impressed with what she finds.
