Hello there. I’m 16 and completed only 4 subjects of my O levels. The result is still unknown since it will be published on 24th of August. I’m planning on moving to America after April of 2018, which in other words means after completing O Levels. By the way, i gave my O levels from EDEXCEL and am a resident of Bangladesh. Still 4 subjects of O level still remain, which i’ll sit for on January 2018.
I’m pretty confident that my result will be good (A* and A). Is that enough?
By the way, after my O Levels + IELTS, do i need to do grades 11 and 12 at a high school there? I’m pretty much scared of doing A Levels, so if there’s a way to avoid it, then please do tell me. Will i be able to get into a good university after doing
classes 11 and 12 at a high school there?
I’m also learning golf so that i can have some early earnings for the future.
Either way, if i have no other options but to attend a high school for two years, then, perhaps i’ll be fine with it depending on how my mental condition is, which i mean after getting my results of January 2018 session.
By the way, my subjects are: Mathematics-B, Further Pure Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Accounting, Bengali and English Language B.
Any idea where i can get a list of schools that offer admission based on O levels+IELTS? As far as i know, i can directly get into an university after A LEVELS+IELTS. I also know that A Levels is equal to College, so i can directly get into an university after the completion of A LEVELS+IELTS.
But you see, i’m scared of A Levels, because there are 6 units for Physics, Chemistry Accounting and 4 for Maths.
I’m scared of A Levels, so i’m in need of a way to avoid A Levels and also stuff like Diploma.
There are a few universities that take students graduated from A Levels such as: Youngstown State University, Pittsburg State University, University of Bridgeport, University of Central Oklahoma and Arkansas State University.
O level is equivalent to US 10th grade. Not many good colleges accept O level students. 11th and 12th or A level is required. You are not prepared to take college classes if you only finish O level.
Some students enter grade 9 in US schools after finishing ICGSE year 10 to have better preparation (repeating a year).
American high schools would likely assign you to a grade level based on your age alone, maybe a year lower if it seems that you’d more time to complete the graduation requirements. American high schools do not follow a standardized curriculum. You would be placed into courses judged appropriate to your background. For example, you may be placed into advanced math and science classes while taking an easier English course and the very first year of a foreign language. (American schools typically teach Spanish and French.)
Can foreign students get into good American universities after graduating from an American high school? Absolutely. Will you? We wouldn’t know.
The main obstacle foreign students face is financial. Most American universities have very limited funds to support international students (or none at all). Without support, you may be looking at annual price tags of $60,000. Can your family afford that?
Other things US universities care about are extracurricular engagement and letters of recommendation. Foreign students often neglect these since they are not considered for university admission in other countries.
In other words, it would be good for me if i start high school there from class 9 and complete whole 4 years of education, right? If yes, then can you please inform me about what other activities are done at schools other than studying?
That may not be an option. Most jurisdictions have an upper limit on the age of students who may attend public high schools (e.g. you may have to be younger than 18-and-a-half at the beginning of the school year). You will have to enter a grade that allows you to finish before you cross that age threshold.
Most students would participate in extra-curricular activities, which can be quite important for college admissions if you want to attend a selective university. Extra-curriculars can range from sports to community service, academic competitions, music, part-time jobs, etc. What activities you choose is less important than that you’re successful at what you are doing (which is greatly facilitated by selecting activities you enjoy doing).
Americans get quite competitive about their ECs. For example, it would be completely normal for a high school sports team to practice 2-3 hours on 5-6 days per week, have a match against another school every week, and miss a few days of school to travel to tournaments.
Complete OLevels allow you to enroll in 10th or 11th grade.
Starting in the 10th grade is best. Starting as an 11th grader gives you too little time. As an ESL speaker you are given a bit more time to graduate. Basically try to get into the lowest possible grade.
In order to be properly placed, you’ll have to bring evidence of what material you’ve completed already (IE, have you completed algebra2 or precalculus, have you taken biology, chemistry, physics for O level) but also you’ll have to complete units in English xompoaoition and literature, foreign language (typically Spanish or French as b@r!um said above), History, financial literacy and economics, etc. If you want to attend a good University you’ll have to make sure you enroll in the proper levels of science (AP?) as well as honors classes for humanities and social science. (There’s also a level called regular which most selective Universities don’t find satisfactory unless there’s no choice at your school).
A B1/doesn’t allow you to attend school and if you indicate that your goal it won’t be granted, if you get it and still want to attend a school they may not admit you.
B1 means tourism and if there’s any whiff you are not aiming at visiting and touring a region you won’t get the visa. You’ll likely have to being proof you will return to Bangladesh after your trip, such as your family living in Dacca.
Student visas are F1 but they’re harder tongrt for high school.
