I was wondering if anyone could explain this. According to the Wellesley website 42% are accepted EE, but only 36% ED.

Early Evaluation is non-binding - Wellesley can accept more because not everyone will end up coming. Early Decision is binding, so it has a lower percentage accepted.

I always thought there was higher acceptance rates for binding decision plans. Does this mean that it’s better to apply EE than ED?

You should only apply ED if it’s your absolute first choice and you don’t need to compare financial aid packages and you’re okay with not knowing if you would have been accepted at other schools. You can only apply to one school Early Decision. Early Evaluation only really gives you a clear answer if you receive a “likely” or an “unlikely.” Is it better to apply EE than ED? I wouldn’t make that decision based on your perception of having better odds. Pick the decision plan that’s best for your situation.

As with any school, the ED pool of applicants is usually stronger than the RD pool, so you’re competing with a tougher field. EE is essentially RD, because nothing is binding and you don’t find out for sure if you’re in until the RD notification date.
