EE and Biomedical Engineering

Hey Everyone,

I went to an open house at RIT and there was a grad student doing research on biosignal processing, which combined biology and electrical engineering. The grad student was creating a sensor system to detect when a heart goes into atrial fibrillation.

I would like to do something similar to what he is doing because I like math and would like to work in the medical field but can't stand the monotony of studying bio. I would like to be an engineer, and create things.

What schools have strong biomedical, and electrical engineering programs with an entrepreneurial program?

Can anyone comment on RPI strength in these programs?

I know at michigan a lot of biomedical guys also do minors in EE or take many classes in EE. I believe the biomedical department forces its undergrads to atleast minor is some other engineering field. I have had a decent amount of bio medical engineers in my classes in EE, even in some 300 and 400 level classes

Maybe that might be something that is attractive to you.

If that’s true about UMichigan I’d say it’s a good idea because in my opinion, a Bioengineering B.S. alone doesn’t prepare you for much of anything.
