I'm an international student who will enroll Berkeley this fall. I got into L&S and wish to study CS. Can someone please tell me what's the difference between L&S CS major and Engineering College CS? If there's significant difference, how hard is it for me to transfer to Engineering College (I have lots of national awards in algorithm contests, so I assume I'm competent if there's competition involved in the transfer.)

For CS emphasis, both majors will select from the same CS courses. There is no significant difference between the two majors for employment or graduate study in CS, though if you want to take more EE courses, EECS will give you more latitude there. ABET accreditation for EECS can matter for patent law purposes. EECS has more lower division requirements (Physics 7A-7B, Math 53, EE 20N), so it may give you less freedom to take courses in other areas as a frosh/soph student. Engineering (EECS) and L&S (L&S CS) have different breadth requirements.

Switching into EECS will be difficult: [Change of College (into COE) ? UC Berkeley College of Engineering](Change of college - Berkeley Engineering)

Thanks a million
