I want to major in electrical engineering, and have some business emphasis(maybe even go for an MBA), but I am having trouble choosing between the three.

Social scene, job/internship networking, professor involvement with students, and prestige are really important to me.

I have a half-tuition scholarship to USC, and a pretty weak financial aid package to Upenn and Duke.

What are your suggestions?

im not an expert, but ive been researching alot lately:

1) social scene - duke or usc, probably giving the nod to usc if im not mistaken. penn would definitely be the bottom of this list.

2) job placement - as far as recruiting goes, i think it depends on what you want to be recruited for. for and electrical engineering job, i think duke. for an i-banking firm, wharton (at upenn) definitely, with duke being second.

3) overall prestige = duke

i dont know about the professors at all. i’d say if your more committed to enginerring, id choose duke. just me though. id also think long and hard about that $$ from usc though…

Yes that $$ from USC is very hard to turn down. Undergrad is important to me, but I don’t want to put my parents(who will be 60+ by the time I graduate) in a bad financial situation with all those college payments.

With the USC scholarship, I can cut the cost down significantly, relieving my parents from some of the burden. To pay for college, my parents will have to dip into their retirement funds, and time.

I think you should consider fit first, then consider if the money is worth it or not. USC is still a great school but I’m not sure if you’re considering grad school since engineers don’t need it. If you want to go to grad school I would DEFINITELY pick USC if you like it, but if not I guess probably Duke would be best for engineering recruiting. Then again… for the business part Penn has Wharton. I would visit all three and then go with your gut I don’t think you can go wrong with ANY of those choices.

How good exactly is Duke’s engineering recruiting/rep? How about recruiting for CS majors just in Trinity?
