im a transfer student and i havenot submit my SIR yet. I got into both UCSD and UCLA as EE major.

i really dunno where should i go . can anyone give me some ideas?

I m sorta prefer ucsd cause i v been stay in SD for 3 years already. I am an international student. neither of them will give me any money. so i have to pay the same tution for both ucsd and ucla.

Also i felt like there are many IT companys around SD.

I just been to LA once, dunno how many IT companys around LA.

And when come to find jobs, which school is easier and beter??

any suggestions? I will really appreciate !

UCLA is probably better for jobs in EE after a BS. The name is slightly better known than UCSD even though UCSD will eventually catch up. The current difference isn’t a whole lot, but it’s definitely noticeable. If you are just way more comfortable in SD then stay, but you’d probably love UCLA. I have a couple of friends who are going to UCSD and really don’t like the social life on campus. Great city they say, but boring campus. Completely different here, UCLA has an awesome campus and an awesome city.

As for difficulty, I’d say UCLA is just slightly harder but not by a whole lot more - negligible. SD’s bioengineering program is top top notch and I’m sure interdepartmental faculty trickles over into other engineering disciplines like EE.

thxxx for your help.
i pretty much not a very social person. im kinda shy sometimes…lol anyways.

i felt like there are too many companys around SD like qualcomm, nokia, sony, motorola…blah blah…and the only good school here is UCSD. However, in LA, i dunno how many companys are there but there are so many good schools around( USC Pepperdine cal tech…)SO I think it might be easier to find a job in SD. I m not sure if this clue is right. How do u think of that??

thxx again!

somnusJ: Don’t worry about what companies are directly around the campus. You say you might be interested in Qualcomm? I interned there last summer (UCLA). They recruit like crazy from UCLA and I met way more engineers there from UCLA than UCSD, despite the location. EE at UCLA is highly regarded and I think it’s the better choice.

Like arcadefire1027 said, it doesn’t matter at all what companies are in the surrounding vicinity. UCLA is highly regarded by companies in the southern California region. Cal is better than both UCSD and UCLA in EE and there are no companies directly in the city of Berkeley. Everything is in SF and Silicon Valley and they come to Cal to recruit. Same thing here, the recruiters will come to the college because it’s well known. Location of the actual company headquarters has little to do with it.

For circuits and embedded systems, UCLA is very hard to beat. But, for other areas maybe UCSD is better.
