EE + Math?

My plan for the next four years is to attend the University of Maine at Orono to pursue a degree in EE. As for the required math classes needed for the degree, all you need are four classes: Calculus I-III and Intro to Diff eq's/linear algebra. I've taken the Calc BC exam and know for sure I will at least get a 4/5, meaning I will jump right into Calc III first semester. What I want to do is take some more math classes (4+) that would help me in EE. What would you guys recommend?

Depends what aspects of EE you’re interested in.

If I were you, I would take formal classes in Diff Eqns and Lin Alg. In other words, not some combined class that has both, but rather two separate classes.

Also, take an intermediate class in probability and statistics.

Finally, depending on your interests, something like partial differential equations, optimization, graph theory, and/or analysis can be useful.

Best of luck!

Diff EQ, Calc III, and Linear Algebra are probably required for the EE degree. Not trying to dissuade you, but a lot of math courses after those are quite a bit more proof based than any course you’ve taken now. Not saying you can’t do it, but it might not be as interesting. As for applied math courses you might like, I would consider probability/statistics, partial differential equations, fourier analysis (different than the analysis above), and complex variables.

Of course, you probably can’t take most of these yet until at least your sophomore year (EE core courses alone will keep you pretty busy), so I would just keep it to differential equations, calc iii, and linear algebra (or only 2 of the 3) for freshman year.
