Electro-optics and Solid-State Devices
Power Systems
Systems and Singal Processing

Exactly which one designs processors, graphics cards, motherboards, etc?

Entering UCI next year as a CompE major and I'm wondering that if it would kill my chances at getting a job at a company if they require BS EE and I apply with a BS CompE?

Electro-optics & Solid-State Devices -- this is if you want to design integrated circuits, microprocessors, LCD displays, etc.

Power Systems -- this is if you want to work for a power company or work on generating equipment or maybe electric automobiles.

Systems and Signal Processing -- that is more like what you are interested in: graphic cards, motherboards, etc. This is if you wanted to design using microprocessors. The first one actually designs the processors.

A good way to find out the various specializations in any field is to go to your department's web site, announcements, or general catalog and look at the "research" section. Make a note of how many professors are involved in research in each of those fields. (Generally, the more professors interested in a given the subject, the more "popular" a subject is at the moment.)

I suppose it could happen if some foolish HR person is just robotically reading resumes, but I consider it extremely unlikely. I would say that if some company is stupid enough not to recognize that EE and CompE degrees are 'close enough', then you probably don't want to work for that company anyway.

And once you've gotten your first job, nobody is going to care what it says on your degree. The only thing that will matter at that point is what job you did and how well you did it.

Should I do EE??? All the circuitry things seem fine. But I hate programming and all things related to how a computer works. And I am one of the most technologically backdated ppl around-I just don't give a damn about that crap. I do love CAD tho.

Major declaration time is coming for me. Just finished first year of engineering at RPI.
