I’m currently a sophomore Electronics Engineering student at a pretty decent university, but really having trouble finding any internship. The last career fair I attended (winter soph year), I talked to at least 20 companies ( basically all the hardware companies there), and practically 1/3 to 1/2 of them interrupted me before I even finished introducing myself b/c “they’re not looking for sophs”. I’m not even sure if they were just trying to be polite. So I’m going into spring career fair without much hope of any summer internship, or any plans for summer. I’ve only taken a few basic EE classes ( digital design, circuit analysis, signals)
So is it even possible for sophomore engineers to find summer internship? Seems like some of my friends in software had a bit more luck than me as sophs but I asked a few upperclassmen and they all said they don’t know anyone who had a summer internship in their soph years. In fact, many of them are in their junior years and haven’t had any internship yet.
I do have pretty high GPA but no real engineering project/exp. I do have pretty good non-engineering related exp (church music, tutoring) but I guess that’s irrelevant. Is that the reason why i’m not even being considered? Any tips or advice would be appreciated since my networking skill isn’t very good.
