so I am a pre admit and don’t have really any experience with programming/cs, but I think that it would be useful to know for the future. I am considering staying on campus for spring/summer and was wondering what you all thought of EECS 183. Can it be taken pass/fail, just so I can get the experience without ruining my gpa? I am genuinely interested in the topic and want to learn but don’t want to be punished for my curiosity. It would most likely be one of two classes i would be taking at the time, probably paired with a distribution requirement in the humanities. Thoughts/suggestions?
Even with no experience it’s not difficult to take for a grade. But, yes it is useful.
It is not that difficult to take for a grade. EECS 281 is where it gets real. You have to take it during a regular term because it is not offered spring or summer.
@umcoe16 , EECS 183 is actually being offered this spring for the first time.
Although I don’t see evidence of it, one thing you do need to be careful about with spring classes is that the courses are on average twice the pace, but not necessarily linear with respect to a regular term. If the course is conceptually challenging, then it might be better to take the course during a regular term so that you have more time to digest the material. If you do take just EECS 183, then maybe it might be manageable. However, some situations may warrant full time enrollment (for example, if you are given a scholarship for the spring semester).
There is no reason not to take it pass fail. Definitely take the class if the tuition is manageable, it will prepare you to take many of the business data coding courses (TO 411 412 414 I think). Which are some of the most useful courses you could take for analyst jobs in this day and age.
