A few questions about EECS (electrical engineering and computer sciences) at the college of engineering vs CS (computer science) at the college of letters and sciences:

How much harder is it to get into EECS than CS?

What's the difference between EECS and CS?

How hard is it to switch from the college of engineering to the college of letters and sciences once I'm in UCB? How hard is it to switch from EECS to CS specifically?

How hard is it to switch from the college of letters and sciences to the college of engineering? How hard is it to switch from CS to EECS?

Is EECS significantly more respected by employers?

This must be an FAQ.

For frosh admissions, probably somewhat harder to get into EECS vs. L&S. Note that all L&S admits enter undeclared and must complete the prerequisites before declaring the major. L&S CS now requires a 3.0 college GPA in the prerequisites to declare (used to be 2.0 before it was enrolled to capacity). Students admitted to EECS are admitted into the major.

Compare here: [Degree Programs | EECS at UC Berkeley](Academics | EECS at UC Berkeley) . EECS has more ability to select EE courses for your upper division major courses, and requires physics courses. Breadth requirement for CoE and L&S are also different.

Changing to L&S is not generally considered to be that difficult. See [Office of Undergraduate Advising: Change of College](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/registration/changeofcollege.html) .

Changing to CoE is generally considered to be difficult. See [Change of College (into COE) ? UC Berkeley College of Engineering](Change of college - Berkeley Engineering) .

If you want to go into EE (or patents, where EECS’ ABET accreditation matters), yes. If you want to go into CS for employment or PhD program, no. You can look at the career survey here: https://career.berkeley.edu/Major/Major.stm

One more question: can I take an EECS minor while being an L&S CS major?

@ucbalumnus - What do you mean by Breadth requirement?
