Fee waiver Eligibility

According to College board:

The PROFILE fee waiver program uses the USDA reduced price lunch income
guidelines, based on the CSS Institutional Methodology (IM) definition of total
parent income. This means that parental income includes both taxable and
untaxed income, with the exception of the Earned Income Credit.

Here is the link to guidelines for reduced price lunch by family size. With an income of $55k,if you have a household size of seven, you will be eligible for the fee waiver (assuming assets of under $30k as well.

According to the US Census bureau, the median income for a family in Louisiana (I believe I remember that's where you are from - from your other posts) is $39K. So, your family is not considered low income, just plain old middle class like most of us.

Jjcddg is correct that you would probably be considered middle class and not low-income, however mine is also a middle class family (at @60K/yr), and there is still very good financial aid available at that income level from many schools, and particularly from schools like Brown and its peers.

We did not qualify for fee waivers, nor did I pursue them, but you should certainly persevere in your FA quest. You could get some very helpful financial assistance. You can't know until you apply.

That is disappointing to hear. We had a family of 5 for the majority of the year, only now do we have just 3.
