I live in a five-member family household with an adjusted gross income of 46k and an efc of 1323. The sad thing is, my family can barely come up with that amount of money on annual basis due to financial situations. Does Duke University allow loans or grants to be taken out on the expected family contribution?

The EFC will have little effect on Duke’s financial aid package for you; it’ll really only determine how much the federal government will give you. It does not mean you’ll be paying $1323 at all. You’ve also submitted the CSS if you’re applying at Duke, which is really what they’ll use, since it’s more comprehensive. If your income is only 46k with others in college and you don’t have like insane assets, Duke will meet 100% of need, which will most likely be a laaarge majority of your cost.

Do you have a non-custodial parent? If so, then Duke may require that parent’s info as well.

Your FAFSA EFC doesn’t mean much to Duke. You need to fill out CSS Profile as well.

If Duke doesn’t give full 5500 Stafford loans in their FA packages, then you can borrow up to that 5500 number.

however, there’s usually padding in COA, so you may not need to borrow at all.

Work over the summer to come up with some money…doesn’t sound like you need much.
