Hi, My name is Rory. I am 24 and recently applied for financial aid. FAFSA asked me if I wanted to include my parents information on my fafsa because I am considered indepedent now. I said yes. I made 11000 and my mom made 20000.I obviously will be getting no money for college anywhere but Finan aid. My efc was 784. Would my efc be lower if I was an indepedent person? Or is it better to include my moms finances on the fafsa too? I submitted my fafsa already. Is it possible to go back and make changes? Thanks a ton, RoryR

You are an independent student based on you age. You don’t get to choose. You mothers financial data will not have been used to calculate your EFC. Some professional schools, such as medical school, do require parent info even though their students are independent. That is probably why you were given the option of including it.

It will not have made a difference to your EFC.
