EFC Clarification

I just submitted the FAFSA online for processing and it contains a link to studentaid.ed.gov which states "The EFC is used to determine your eligibility for federal student aid and indicates how much money you and your family are expected to contribute toward your cost of attendance for the school year."

I read somewhere on this board that the EFC is for the family and that if two students will be in college at the same time the expected family contribution per student would be half of the reported EFC. Is this true? If the estimated EFC was $20,000, would a college expect me to pay somewhere around $10,000?

No. The EFC (reported on the FAFSA) is per student. Each student gets there own. I think what people mean is that when there is more than one college student in the family, the parent's portion of the contribution is divided by the number of students. This, however, is taken into account on each student's FAFSA so that the number they give you already has that.
