EFC Confusion

I'm an only child with parents who together make around 60k and have around 50k in assets (House, cars, other property, savings). When I tried finding out what my EFC was online I ran across a 27k figure. I've applied to several colleges (all private) and if I really have to spend 27k out of pocket, I couldn't go to any of them.
How much will going to a college with a COA of 50k really cost? They can't expect to have my parents spend 1/2 of their income on college costs.
Thanks.

You must have put figures in wrong (or used a very poor forecaster). Parent income of $60k would not produce an EFC of $27k.

Most schools deadlines for FA are approaching or have passed. I hope you have actually completed your FA applications. FAFSA gives you an EFC very quickly. Most expensive private schools also require CSS Profile.

THANKS!*

does your mom work?

Also, you mention that your dad works for the gov’t and he gets moved/transferred a lot. That doesn’t sound like a modest paying job.

Are you giving your parents’ “net income” or AGI?

also, does your dad contribute to a 401k?

Since most schools do not “meet need”, there may be some pricey schools that won’t give you much aid. While that may “sound” like they’re expecting your parents to spend too much of their income, it’s not really that way. These schools just don’t have much to give.

What schools did you apply to?
