So yeah...my EFC is ~27k, but the cost is 23k, student contri. $200? Just curious what this means lol.

I really doubt that you'll be getting any kind of scholarship or grants if you were counting on them. Loans, yes, but a very small amount for subsidized loans.

Your family is expected to pay 27k for tuition even though the cost is 23k. My friend had the exact same EFC vs Cost and he got one Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.

Nah, no scholarships. I think I do have loans..Isn't it a bit unfair that I have to pay more? That's ridiculous

You probably make more, so you have to pay more.

I don't think it's really "unfair." Some aspects of filing a fafsa are unfair, but the idea of you make more so you pay more is fair.

My friend has the same EFC and his parents don't seem to have any problem paying for his whole college bill, buying a new car (granted he sold another car to get a new car), or buying lots of stuff for their kids (4 in total).

I don't see why, it's a public school. Its like having to pay more at a restaurant just because you earn more money.

^ I'm in the same boat as you but worse because I don't qualify for anything, public or private school. The only way to get around it is to go for the merit-based aid.

Nooooo....
EFC is the amount they think you'll be able to pay, it's higher than expected cost of UCLA in case you also applied to more expensive schools.
You don't pay more than the 23k expected cost.

^

Makes much more sense, thanks.

Oh, did you think you had to pay 27k despite the fact that school costs 23k?

From the way you worded it, yes.

That just means you wont be receiving financial aid for college, congrats :) Mine is similar, EFC way over actual cost.

FireEmblem - I'm sorry for that. Yeah I did make it sound that way.

Alright cool, thanks for the clarification.
