My EFC is roughly $2300 going into my freshman year (2008-2009).

My sister's EFC last year (2007-2008) was in the $6,000s.

I didn't realize that having 2 kids in college lowers your EFC that much.

I know it's hard to tell but just guesstimating, will I get decent aid with that EFC?

There is no way to know what kind of financial aid you might receive without knowing the college you are attending. Some schools meet 100% of need while others meet a small %age of calculated need.

The schools I applied to:

University of New Hampshire
Wheaton College
Boston University
University of Vermont
Colby College
Northeastern University
New York University
Hamilton College
Colgate University

They are in the order of the likelihood I will attend.

Most of these schools do not meet full need. You can go to their websites and do a search for the common data set. In that information, it will tell you the average amount and %age of aid provided to students for last year. I will tell you that NYU is very notorious for "gapping" students...do not meet full need and finaid is on the lower side. U of NH and U of VT...both flagship U's usually award more finaid to instate students than out of state students, and neither meets full need. U of Vermont is VERY expensive for out of state students (in comparison to many public universities). BU is expensive and they also do not meet full need.

Are you perhaps in the running for some merit scholarships at any of the privates on your list?

There's a good chance, I will not be getting merit aid. I got a $1,000 scholarship from UVM but that's it so far. I'm banking on getting the $40,000 McKelvey Scholarship.

Are you instate for VT or NH? The McKelvey Scholarship would be wonderful for you. Good luck to you!!!

I am not in-state at either. I'm from Maine. Thanks

Woodesign...you mention that your sister is in college. Does she attend any of the schools you are applying to? What did her financial aid packages look like? That might at least give you a ball park of what yours will look like. And really..good luck on the McKelvey...that would be wonderful.

She is attending University of Southern Maine, an in-state public. I'm not completely sure what her package was but I don't believe it was anything spectacular.
