My family was awarded an EFC of 01889 after completing the FAFSA today. My family makes about 45,000 a year with 5 people. What kind of aid should I expect to receive? I am the only student in college.

With an EFC of 1889, you’ll get some Pell Grant money…about 3200 or so. You could also get a small student loan and maybe some work study.

How much more you’ll get will depend on the school that you apply to and what aid your state gives.

Some schools don’t have much to give.

Where have you applied?

What state are you in?

I attend the University of Virginia. I am out of state and from Maryland. Last year, my EFC was 16503 and i got some aid from the school. But, my continuation at the university depends on how much aid i get this year. Can you ballpark it at all?

Thanks so much for the help by the way

???

Your EFC dropped from 16503 down to 1889? wow…that’s quite a drop.

UVA promises to meet need.

Does UVA use CSS Profile as well? Does it require any info about non-custodial parents?

If UVA determines your family contribution to be about 2000, then it will give you a big grant, a small loan, and maybe some work study. However, if it uses CSS and/or requires NCP info, it may determine your contribution to be higher.

If your family won’t be able to pay the 2000 (or whatever UVA determines), then you may have to cover it with income from a summer job. you probably should be looking for a summer job anyway.
