EFC is over $6,000, but parents are bankrupt

*it is time to re-think options for school. *

Very true…

KyleUT…where else have you gotten acceptances?

UT San Antonio. My tuition sounds about normal, given that it considers housing, fees, gas, etc.

^^^

I’m not sure I understand.

What do you mean by saying that your tuition sounds normal. Are you talking about the UT-Austin package? It may not seem high, but covering the costs is going to be hard. What is your parents position on taking out Plus loans once they are out of financial trouble? That seems risky to me - especially if there is another child that will be going to college.

Are you saying that you’ve been accepted to UT and UT-SA? What does the UT-SA FA package look like? What is the UT-SA COA breakdown?

I will be attending UTSA this upcoming fall, but I hope to transfer to UT Austin after my Freshman year. The financial aid information and estimated cost of attendance that I posted was from UTSA, not UT Austin.(UT Austin’s would cost even more! :/)

And what I meant by my “tuition sounding normal” is that my Cost of Attendance sounds about average. I had seen earlier posts saying that it seemed kind of pricey, but $20,000 for a school-year isn’t unreasonable, especially when that figure includes personal costs too.

My parents are willing to take out a PLUS loan after their situation. They will also do much better financially too. Currently, the government deducts $500 from my dad each paycheck. So, $1,000 a month. After the bankruptcy deal is over with, they will no longer due that, so they will have $12,000 extra per year, which they have already said would be used to pay for my college.

Covering the costs for my Freshman and Sophomore years will be hard, no doubt. And, I am going to have to pay for everything through loans. But after December, my Sophomore year, my parents will no longer be considered bankrupt and will have a substantial more amount of money to help pay for my college.

I don’t think it’s pricey. I think the concern was the loan aspect.

Good luck!
