efc meaning?

what does an EFC of 01732 mean?

It means that according to FAFSA, which is a calculator that the federal government uses in giving out their grants, loans and workstudy monies, the Expected Family Contribution is $1742. The figure is below the PELL grant cut off, so a student from such a family will get PELL money. The student is also eligible for some Stafford loan interest subsidization while in school, and if the need exists and the school has work study funds, the student might be eligible for those. If some state programs are tied into the EFC, then the student may be eligible for those.

It does not guarantee anything other than that. Most schools do not meet 100% of need, but they will use these numbers to get you the federal and state funding that you are entitled to get and what else they give you is entirely up to them.

cpt is right.

With a low EFC like that you need a good strategy when applying to schools. There’s little point in applying to many certain schools if you’re not likely going to get aid or merit from them. It’s fine to apply to a few just to see, but it’s better to focus on more likely successes. :)

What is your major?

What is your GPA and test scores?

What state are you in?
