EFC not in line with aid

Our EFC was just under 17K, and when we got our first financial aid package from a State U, ( I am an OOS ) there some aid, not anywhere near what would cover anything over the EFC ( not that I was expecting that) but there was some aid. Since then, I have been accepted to two private colleges and have not received a penny in aid.... has anyone else had this situation? Do you think it is worth calling the financial aid office to see what is going on. I fully expect to pay a good portion of my tuition, but was hoping for a little bit of aid.

Acceptances come from admissions. Your FA Package will come from the Finaid department.

DS was accepted from anywhere from a week and a half to 3 months after he applied. All were RD, some rolling, some (the last to accept him) were not. FA packages came within a week and a half or so from the time FAFSA was submitted. For all of the schools for which he was accepted.

One of the schools he was accepted to had their own internal FA app which I just recently sent in. I called the finaid department there (on another matter), and it had arrived there the day before. They told me he should see a FA Package within about a week and a half. (That timeframe keeps coming up).

Depending on COA, with a 17000 EFC I would expect you would see some need based aid....

Several of the schools awarded DS some merit aid as well. This usually came along with the acceptance letter from admissions, and was reflected on the FA Package along with loans...work study etc.

Hopefully this helps you. Worst case scenario, call the schools FinAid Dept. They will indicate either a timeframe when you could expect to see their package. Keep in mind, this is a VERY BUSY time for these people..

I'm not sure I understand your statement:

.

Your EFC is basically that. any other merit or need based aid is on top of that. Not that the schools you are looking at will met 100% of demonstrated need, or meet ANY of your COA - EFC Gap
