EFC Question

Hey Everyone,
I'm a senior in high school and I was surprised by the EFC that the FAFSA generated.

I have a unique scenario in that, my parents and I moved to the country a few years ago, so much of our savings have gone to purchasing a house, car, etc. Our income is around 108k, but much of this income is used for living expenses.

Should a university be alerted of this?

While you are always welcome to appeal financial aid awards, I doubt a school would adjust your award for the reason you cite.

A lot of students applying for FA have a similar household income and the family's main asset is a house, and all income is spent on "living expenses" so it isn't really a "unique scenario." But when you receive the FA decisions, it doesn't hurt to appeal if you aren't able to afford your first choice school.

fyi, based on other posts from the OP, they came to this country in 1999. I think the parents and kid post under the same name (not that there is anything wrong with that)

Most people use their income for living expenses. This is not unique in any way.

Colleges hear that excuse thousands of times.

I have to admit that is cute though-
Yes honey- bills come every month!

Actually though- income of $108K doesnt mean that you won't get aid- if your tuition is $40K and expenses rm/board another $15K- you could still get something.
What is your EFC?
