What is an “efc form”? Do you mean that you did a financial aid estimator? Your family would MINIMALLY be expected to contribute the EFC (which is an estimate right now, right?). Texas A & M does not meet full need which means that very likely you would be paying more than that…especially as an out of state student. Most state schools do not have generous need based aid for OOS students.

Not sure what you mean by this. If you mean will this amount of need be fully met with financial aid then probably not. Your EFC is too high for federal grant aid (the Pell requires an EFC of <4617 this year). As far as federal aid is concerned you are guaranteed a maximum Stafford loan as a freshman of $5500. You may also be eligible for WS. Any other aid would have to come from the school. As Texas is a state U it is unlikely they will give you anywhere near the balance of your need with institutional aid.

It’s rarely a good idea to think that an OOS public can come close to meeting need of an OOS student (since OOS costs are so high). Most publics can’t even meet the (lower) need for it’s own students (and when they even attempt to meet need of their own students, the “aid” includes loans.)

typically, F/A is really a lot of loans, except for a few top, top privates.

Typically when a student wants to go to an OOS public, he has two choices…

1) expect to pay all costs himself

2) pick an OOS that will reduce the total cost because of merit $ scholarship.
