okay so originally my children EFC was under 4k, I later realized that I entered 14k where it asked if the parents had received any scholarships/grants, we received the 14k for my oldest child but found out that i should have never entered it in my fafsa because its not income as it was used for tuition, so i went and made the “correction” and took off the 14k and entered zero instead, so after i did that the EFC went up to almost 7k which will then make both my children ineligible for Pell Grant. So confused I thought that by taking that number out our EFC would go down not up. Does anyone have any advice, i feel like something is wrong
I am not 100% sure what you are saying, but my guess is that you originally entered the $14,000 for question 91d. Is that correct?
Question 91d does not ask how much scholarship a parent received, but how much taxable scholarship was reported as part of 2018 AGI.
It then gets subtracted from FAFSA income.
If you as a parent didn’t attend college and didn’t receive taxable scholarships or grants that you reported as part of your AGI on your 2018 tax return, then that question doesn’t apply to you.
