Efc ?

comnpared to other ppl my efc isnt that bad but its still a stretch, a few more thousand than my family can afford. my ? is, once my college sees the efc from fafsa will they use the same one or is there a chance theyll offer a lower one?

College’s can not change your efc unless there is major financial job loss. FAFSA figures out your efc and sends it to the college…not the other way around. A college may offer you a financial aid package that includes loans or grants from their school, but that is it.

Did you already receive your FA award? If you receive more scholarships there is a chance that it will cover some of your EFC. It depends on the school’s policy - some will reduce aid/work study, some will reduce expected loans. Your parents don’t have to come up with the extra amount all at once. There are tuition payment plans or a Parent PLUS loan that can help. And, of course, your spring and summer earnings and graduation awards/monetary gifts can help close the gap.

If Penn is your school of choice, they, like most private colleges use Profile in addition to FAFSA is determining your EFC. Profile takes more things into consideration such as home equity.

Most people have a higher EFC than they had with FAFSA alone, but a few actually have a lower one.
