I'm currently a Junior who studies at a high school where most students in my grade are 17 or 18 years old. I am 16 years old while some of my classmates are even 15.

I have heard some stories and rumors about colleges giving priority to older students, and have also heard ones claiming that colleges prefer younger students for a show of more precocious talent.

Being "too young" is generally viewed as a handicap because you have to prove your maturity. I personally don't think it really matters whether an applicant is 17, 18 or 19. Being 15 or 25 would probably make a difference though.

@jlak, I'm 16, and I'm heading off to college this fall; as is my twin; and seeing as you're relatively older (I was 14-15 in my junior year); I don't think you'll have a problem. Don't trust rumours! :)

I know of at least two people who're 15 and going to college this fall, as well. It isn't age, but maturity that counts.
