So I want to know what effect sending your SAT/ACT scores has, when you send them prior to your APP. Im talking about taking the SAT and registering to have your scores sent to four schools of your choices for free. Does this have any real effect, other than not having to send the scores later when you apply to those schools?

No there is no effect other than saving money from needing to send them later.

It really depends on the school, but at most, it won’t have any negative effect. If you do the free score report and score a 1200, then retake and score a 2300, MOST schools will only consider the highest score. That’s a drastic example, but yeah. I would say use them. But look at school policy first. I ended up using the free reports for some schools that I didn’t even end up applying to.

Until your app actually arrives, no one is likely to even see your score except those at the clerical level who input data into the computer and those involved in marketing and promotions who might use it for sending recruiting material (and those are most often different people than the ones who make the admissions decisions). It will be there when your app arrives and will be matched with it.

The concern is usually that sending the score blind could result in sending a bad score. If colleges are to be believed, bad scores will not be used against you when you send multiple test scores as they will use for admission, depending on college, either that test with your highest composite score or the highest section scores from multiple tests. However, many applicants have a hard time convincing themselves that is actually true.
