Haha I wondered why I didn’t recognize any of the names.

i second the heroin, but maybe try crack too- more of the “smoking” verb

it’s all about having an oral fixation, so smoking something else always works. crystal meth is my recommendation. another plus is if this doesn’t break your addiction, with all the money you’ll spend feeding your meth addiction, you won’t even be able to buy cigarettes.

Whew, I’m pretty sure 8 a day is heavy smoking! I’m sorry you fell into this addiction, but find something healthy to replace it with, like running or another form of exercise. Work for your body, not against it!

8 a day is not heavy at all. Heavy is a pack a day (20)

becoming addicted to smoking cigarettes has a lot more to do with genetics than just smoking. i have occasionaly been smoking for 2 years (probably a pack every week or two) and it did help me stay up and study and sometimes i just wanted one, it is something i like to do every now and then, if your parents etc smoke i would worry about becoming addicted if not im sure itll be easier to stop than you think.

I buy a pack of Reds whenever I’m really depressed, but I’ve had no problem with addiction to them. It just puts me to sleep.

But yeah I would suggest looking up pictures of the blackened lungs. It’s scary.

food food food.
Eat a lot.
Seriously, start craving for food.
You can easily be fit and eat a lot.
It will help.

Oh please you’re going to blame genetics on your addiction to cigarettes?

That’s like the fat boy who eats a cake everyday and blames his morbid size on “genetics.”

In his defense, some people do simply have addictive genes. My family has a history with addictions, and I can note it a little bit in my personality. Anybody who knows they may potentially get addicted more easily should probably avoid it if they have interest in it in the first place.

But you’re right, it’s one’s fault if they started in the first place, after all.

Hi Int’l85! I could have written your post myself! Let me guess, you’re giving up because of the American anti-smoking attitudes?

Well, that’s why I gave up! I’m starting college in Missouri in 2 weeks, and I used to smoke about 20 a day, up until about a month ago. I bought the nicotine gum. I took about 20 of them (there’s 100+ per pack) and I only think about smoking when I see my friends going outside for one.

The thing is, get the strongest mg’s of the nicotine possible. Heed the warnings on the literature, like not smoking while chewing, etc. The gum tastes nice and minty first and them after a few minutes it starts to taste, literally, like cigarette butts! And then you get a really dry cough. My advice is take the gum as soon as you get a craving. It won’t be easy staying on the wagon, as the cigarettes taste nicer than the gum.

That’s my 2 cents anyways! Good luck!

i realize this is days old, but hotelmoscow i am currently in pursuit of my MS in molecular genetics and 3 other labs in the building i work at are studying the relationship between nicotince addiction and genes. there are lots of scholarly articles about this on the internet. look stuff up so you dont sound stupid. and yes i have been drinking whilst watching the olympics i am sure all your TAs are doing it too.
love,
Steve

You have to go cold turkey… and be thankful you are only doing 8 per day, that’s not bad at all. Anyways, the trick is cold turkey… be prepared to go through the worst feelings of your life. haha it actually made me depressed… but the hardest part is just that first week. If you can do past the first week you are pretty much set. The really hard ones are to kill not smoking when drinking or long drives. I still buy a pack for the night everytime i am drinking or if I am doing any sort of long driving i’ll pick up a pack.. but other than that i’m a non smoker :D
