Effects of a withdrawn class for a sophomore transfer

Hey all,

I was recently accepted to UIUC engineering for next year. I held a 3.5 my first two quarters, with a B+ and an A- in honors math (calc 1 and 2) and an A- in physics so far. However, this third quarter I apparently became far too ambitious, taking intro to C++/algorithms and the continuation courses in math, physics, and engineering. This is too much, it seems. I failed my first math midterm (and my first physics one, but at least that will curve up). Now, I don't believe Calc 3 is required for sophomore transfers to UIUC, but I have a feeling that if I fail they'll probably rescind my admission, and that is bad. The deadline to drop with a W is in 4 days - would this be the safer option? If anyone has any experience with a situation like this, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

in all honesty, if it comes to it, a W is worse than an F. So if you are that unsure, better to take the W and send a letter to your school explaining what happened. Have you tried going to your teacher and pleading your case, asking for extra credit? Some professors are awful about that, I know, but if you don’t ask, u don’t get.

Good luck!

i’d take the W and just talk with admissions after. an F just looks HORRIBLE.

ahaha that’s what I meant. F=bad. W=not great, but better.

Also…maybe you want to consider your major and whether this may be something feasible for you or if it’s just a pipe dream. I’m not saying it is, but you don’t want this to happen to you again.
