Effects of Social Media on Medical School Application?

My name is very searchable (not my username here) but my actual name. It's all over my YouTube channel (which gets some decent* traffic) and all over Tumblr (also gets some decent* traffic) along with Instagram. I was just wondering if medical schools really go and search its applicants. I would hate to be declined just because of my social life and videos. It's not like I have naked pictures or me getting sloppy drunk. I do have some content that I personally don't see as horrible- but I see how a very "formal" person could raise an eyebrow.

I know how this posts sound but I do take my academics very seriously. But I also enjoy being liberal on the internet.

I can't find any answers to people in similar situations. I guess not many people are in this situation, lol.

*Decent: ~fairly somewhat popular in that realm.

Yes they do - if what you’re posting isn’t super controversial, don’t worry about it.

Med schools are not looking for only formal applicants, they want people who are human beings too, not just zombies.

I think it’s perfectly fine, as long as you are not posting things like:

-supporting the Nazi party or any anti-american political movement
-supporting quack medical therapies like laetrile

I think you get the drift though.

I’m with Mr. Brown; it varies from school to school, but people you don’t know are paying a whole lot more attention to your social media than you’d think. It’s a common tool that businesses use to check out applicants, so you’d be safe in assuming that at least some med schools look at an applicant’s social media exposure.

Tangent to this thread here: I once read somewhere that your future potential employer or future potential SO candidates may look up your personal information in the social media, to help decide their next move.
