I have heard both horror stories and fairy tales about getting into, and getting money for grad school. Some say a prestigious undergrad school increases grad opportunities a thousand fold, while others say it only matters if you do well and have extracurriculars related to the higher degree you want to pursue. So my question is, does your undergrad school name matter when you are considering grad school?

It depends on the field, but my impression is that in general the name does not matter much. Your own academic ability, GPA, test scores, statement of purpose, writing sample, and letters of recommendation all are far, far more important.
