I know EFT is used for refunds, but I've never had a bank account. Is EFT that useful? Should I really get a bank account, so Berkeley can transfer any possible refunds?

it's not too big of a deal. eft just makes things more convenient. if you don't get eft, they will have you go down to sproul to pick up a physical check that they have printed. you will then have to deposit that check into a bank account. either way, you'll need access to a bank account.

dude, get a bank account. Not just for EFT, but for convenience to buy things. Mostly everyone at cal has a bank account and more than half have credit cards.

You can open one up online or in a bank in under 10 minutes. It's nothing complicated.

speaking of banks, is there a wamu in berkeley....anywhere near campus?

There is indeed a wamu west of uc berkeley on Shattuck.

washington mutual loc: Berkeley, CA - Google Maps

There's also a WaMu ATM located in the Bear's Lair food court, but that means you can only access it Monday through Friday, 7am-6pm.
