Pat, don’t mind ThisIsMichigan. He is obviously wrong. No one struggles and drops out of engineering to transfer to Ross. That’s ■■■■■■■■. You can’t get into Ross if you struggle in your original school, be it engineering or LSA (because presumably if you are struggling you won’t have a good enough GPA to get in).

ThisIsMichigan is just angry that the typical engineering kid has a lower career earnings trajectory than the typical Ross kid (engineers GENERALLY top out at 130-180k, and that’s probably being generous, while your Ross grad in IBD/S&T/MBB GENERALLY will top out at multiples of that), and will probably end up reporting to one of these business majors in middle management, while working a lot harder in college.

“The freshly minted MBA who I report to don’t know shet, and probably makes 2 times what I make. I don’t understand why he is managing me” is a very common complaint amongst engineers. So please be understanding of his animosity against business majors. He just can’t help it.

On the flip side, while the average Ross student is more competent (because of the extra selection process), it’s actually really easy to do well in Ross. The material is really easy. The same cannot be said about engineering. So your assumption that if you can’t handle engineering, you won’t be able to handle Ross is pretty off base.

Think of it like this, the average HBS student is probably more accomplished than the average carnegie mellon masters in CS, and it’s probably harder to get into HBS. But HBS is easy. Hard to get in =/= hard program

Hey, I know of some people that transferred, or at least tried to. Maybe they ended up in LSA, who knows.

How are Ross students more “competent” exactly? Because its harder to get into? What if the bulk of engineering students decided to go for Ross. I don’t think many would struggle with Econ 101 or Calc 1.

I’m not saying there aren’t some incompetent engineers here. The bottom level of the in state kids can get pretty low.

I couldn’t care less what the average Ross student makes compared to the average in Engr. I’ve worked hard to NOT be average.

Or you were saying what the very few tippy top Ross kids will make down the line if things go their way. Its not like an MBA is out of the question. Or its possible that’s not what everyone wants. Either way, the average pay compared between the two isn’t my concern. If money was the main objective I would be doing something else. Consulting or finance or something.

I’m also pretty sure that where I am working right now there aren’t any business majors managing engineers. Maybe I have to go a lot higher up, who knows.

I’m just calling it like I see it. Sorry if that’s not what the HS Sr wants to hear.

Woahhhh ThisIsMichigan, didn’t mean to get you all riled up. I wasn’t trying to take any shots against UM engineers - I have a ton of respect for them. I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the difficulty of Ross. Sheesh lol.

What made you think I was riled up? I wasn’t even responding to you lol

ThisIsMichigan, why do you keep making new accounts… first MLDWoody then PurpleDuckMan now this…

I don’t know who those people are…

it’s pretty easy to figure these things out online, but if you want to deny it then ok…

Your questions confuse and frighten me.
