Egr 53

Hey there (prospective) Duke engineers. Could anyone please explain the difference between EGR 53L, EGR 53L9 and EGR 53R? Can I take any of those three to fulfill my first-year EGR 53 requisite at Pratt or does it have to be a specific one (EGR 53L)?

you need all three to pass. One is the lecture (53L), one is the lab portion 53L9, and the last is the recitation (discussion and such) (53R).

Huh, so I actually have to “bookbag” all 3 classes? Do they have separate grades or will only have a final grade for “EGR 53”, which takes into account all 3 EGR 53 classes?

You get just one grade, for EGR53L. R, L9, and L are all components of the same class. Yes, you need to bookbag all three classes. I’m sure in about a month of so the freshmen will be getting some emails from the deans reminding you of that.

This kind of notation applies to all other classes at Duke too.

This information is in the blue book on page 7 of the registration tab. Also on page 8 of the same section.

@niloy: some people just post without reading, it happens a lot.

To my defense I received the wrong Blue Book. I got the Trinity Version instead of the Pratt version. This isn´t very relevant, but I also received it extremely late and only because I emailed them to let them know I had not yet received it so they sent me another one (the wrong one though).

don’t worry, if it’s critical and you did it wrong, you’ll definitely know and you’ll probably be contacted by the deans at some point.

On the other hand, the blue book isn’t that life-changing, I didn’t even get one and scraped by just fine so don’t fret.

fyi, u can get a pdf version of the pratt bluebook. scroll to the bottom of this link:

Is it just me or does EGR 53R not have times (or class rooms in some cases)?

Dr.G, the course instructor likes to use the class website more than the school systems. I think he’s currently putting together the course schedules and assignments including the times and rooms.

You can check it out here: [EGR 53L](http://classes.pratt.duke.edu/EGR53F09/)

Some info have already been posted, more will probably be up soon.

LOL. I just got an email right after I posted it. Basically signup for any 53R…times will be determined later don’t worry about scheduling it, basically office hours.

Thanks for the link, though.
