Egyptology

I was told in the Parents' Forum that the University of Chicago has one of the best Egyptology programs in the country. Does anyone know anything about it?

That might help a bit. My advice is to give them a call or email.

The grad school has strong anthropology and paleontology programs. We were told that undergrads can easily get involved with the research professors. I don't know specifically about archoelology programs but I think they are strong there. To further narrow to Egyptology, I don't know. There usually are not undergraduate programs in these areas, but there are schools that allow undergrads to be involved. If you are certain that you want so narrow a focus for undergrad, why not email the admissions office?

I heard that Brown has the best one. This was on the tour, BTW, but the fact that they have such a narrowly focused program says something.

Uchicago's Oriental Institute is without doubt one of the best places (if not the best) in the United States for Near Eastern Studies of all kinds, from antiquities and archeology to languages et al. Members of my family are involved in that area of study, as are a few friends, who have all studied or looked at studying at Chicago and have confirmed this.
