Ehh i'll post chances - never done this before

Aite so chances - I’ve gone over to the dark side.

White middle class male applying to Jerome Fisher/Wharton:

GPA: 3.5/4 Weighted (my school doesn’t do unweighted or class rank)
SATs: M: 700 R: 680 W: 660 MIIC: 670 APUS: 670
School: Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a very competitive and selective public magnet school, we have tons of Intel semifinalists etc (I don’t happen to be one of them)

E/Cs: President/Founder Ski Club - 2 years, Founding Officer Investment Club - 2 years, Homecoming Float chair - 3 years, Interned as the same Tech Company for 3 years + fall mentorship programming, video editing, IT, and multimedia work, Teach skiing to those with disabilities 2 yrs., submitted some photo/cg prints., Russian Honor Society

Contests: 3rd overall, 1st place for grade level, National Philosophy Slam (most philosophical junior in the country last year), Won Architectural Design Competition for re-designing front of school, Finalist Verizon Web Design Contest - $500 prize.

Hooks: I started a run a global e-commerce and import/export business, grossed over $70k last year, with about $12k monthly volume projected for the coming year. As ski club president I lead a 60 person trip last year and another one this year including all organization, money, checks, contract negotiations etc.

My recommendations are excellent. I have a very good relationship with my counselor, she told me she spent over 3 hours on my rec. alone.

My English teacher was leaving that year so she wasn’t writing recs. but filled out my counselor evaluation form to help my counselor write her rec. Well basically my counselor was reading it during her rec. interview and told me that it was the best recommendation she’d ever read so she typed that up to use it for one of my teacher recommendations.

My other rec. is from my video tech teacher - been working with him since freshman year and I regularly help him with editing software/cameras and purchasing decisions for equipment for the school.

And I have one more rec. from my boss for the past 3 years, he told me he spent a lot of time on it and that it was really good.

Essays/App: I’ve spent many hours on them, had many people including counselor review them and have been told it was excellent.

My GPA and SATs suck… Do you guys think I have a chance?

Jerome Fisher will be a big reach for you--it doesn't seem like you have the "technology" background for the M&T. You seem competitive in Wharton with that business and all. Your GPA and SATs will most likely hurt you the most. Hope Penn can see your role as a leader in many aspects, good luck!

Didn't include - the AP was Compsci, and Post AP was Artificial intelligence. B+ and A in the courses respectively.

Also - don't know if you missed it but:

"Interned as the same Tech Company for 3 years + fall mentorship programming, video editing, IT, and multimedia work"

I also forgot I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional (since 9th grade) and my business is trading computer parts :) Thanks for the luck - I could use it!

you have excellent ecs, especially the business - WOW!

but since I was deferred from Wharton ED with great ECs too, I know now how important GPA was. As for penn, don't worry TOO much about Sats, since many kids with sub-2000 total sat i got in..but the gpa is what's gonna hurt =/

My GPA is my primary concern - do you think they'll even read and consider my app. after seeing my GPA or just send it to the shredder?

I realize how important GPA is - from what I'm getting the chances are pretty low my ECs will balance it out enough to get me in?

Look at it this way--regardless of the decision you can live with the comfort of knowing that you already earn more than the average American =P

Are you the gzhang from Cornell TASP 2006?
