<p>How much does ELC status help you in uc admissions?</p>
<p>Does it actually increase your chances or is it just a label?</p>

<p>It is just a label, but what matters is being a person who is of the quality that would get the label or be near getting it. It helps the top students at weak public scools get into a UC, but it isn't going to help a lot of people get into Berkeley or UCLA- what got them the label is.</p>
<p>Oh all right. Thanks. I guess I'm just worried because I have a fairly strong academic record, pretty good ec's, leadership, and such, but I fear I might write a weak essay.</p>
<p>Well, do your best. Some people who expect to get in are rejected, and some who expect to be rejected get in. Write whatever you think the best essay you're capable of is, and don't worry- there might very well be better colleges for you.</p>
