I'm a bit confused about ELC. I am ranked in the top 1% (6 out of 706), and my school participates in ELC. If I qualify for ELC, does that mean that if I apply to only 1 UC, I will get in? Or am I just confused?

ELC simply means that if you are not admitted to the UCs that you apply to, you will be offered admission to a UC with space available (probably Merced or Riverside).

Note that ELC compares your UC admissions GPA to the historic top 9% UC admissions GPA in your high school; it does not use your current class rank.

That means you will get into a good number of UCs just by applying (for example, last year I believe ELC students could get into merced, riverside, davis, irvine, and I’m pretty sure of santa cruz and santa barbara too, just by sending in an application), so just pick one as a back-up or one you really want. You will get letters and postcards from the colleges that guarantee admission before thanksgiving.

Your counselor will give you the number you have to enter into your UC app. As for san diego, berkeley, and LA, you just apply and hope for the best!

Oh ok. Hopefully my UC GPA will be a 4.5 (as long as I maintain As this year). Then again, I don’t know why I should be worried, because I already have Santa Cruz as a safety…
