I know that the ELC program excludes automatic admission to UCB and UCLA. What UC schools does it qualify you for and is it worth looking into. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

In the past xx years the “guarantee” schools have been Davis, Irvine & SB. Next year, who knows?

Of course, that means that R & SC are 99.99% sure, and Merced takes anyone eligible. ELC earns bonus points under SD’s point system, so yes, worth looking into.

But, your HS GC likely already has the process down.

You don’t apply for ELC. Your high school submits your grades to the UC Central processing summer after junior year after first having your parents sign a permission form for them to submit your grades. They submit roughly the top 12.5% of the school. Then if you are in the top 4% of your school per UC calculation (which might very well be different than your local school) you receive a letter in the fall saying, “congrats;you are elc”. Shortly thereafter you would get letters from schools that guarantee admission to elc no matter what your test scores on. The past 2 years Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara all did so and, as bb noted, you would most likely get into UCR, UCSC and Merced anyway. UCLA and UCB do not give preference and UCSC gives ELC a boost in their point system but not a guarantee. Hope this helpful. For my d this past year it meant she had nice safeties in Oct.

Thank you for the help!

2008 ELC admission rates for UCB was 56%, UCLA was 60.6% and UCSD was 89%. ELC does increase your chances at these schools however your extracirriculars, essays, etc will play a big part to set you apart from the others, especially at Cal and UCLA.
