Does anyone know how Berkley handles these students. I found that UCSB automatically accepts them.

Since Berkeley is a lot more selective than UCSB, they do not automatically accept anyone. ELC just works as a sort of extra honor, I think.

About 60% of Berkeley are ELC students, and around 60% of the ELC students who apply get into Berkeley. (This is just coincidence, though.)

UCI, UCSB, UCR, UCM, and probably UCD and UCSC will automatically accept ELC applicants. As for Berkeley and UCLA, they don't really care; ELC is only another aspect of your application. It really depends on your school, though, since that's what ELC is based on.

ELC helps a lot when you are coming from a low ranking high school in California. I know around a dozen people here who have ELC and high GPA's, but low SAT's (1700's).
