ELC question - "on track to meet..."

So I just recently got my ELC letter (I know, its late).
I am extremely confused on what the letter means; particularly:

“I am pleased to inform you that a recent review of your high school transcripts confirms that you have an outstanding record of academic achievement and are on track to meet the statewide eligibility requirements for freshmen admission to the University. It is my great pleasure to invite you to apply for admission to the University’s freshmen class of 2011.”

It goes on to say:
“As a statewide eligible student you are guaranteed admission to the University; however, the guarantee is not to a particular campus or program of study.”

So what does this mean? What is “on track” to meet the statewide requirements? Does this mean I am not ELC qualified?

EDIT: I am top 4% of my class.

Yes, this is different than ELC. Here are the explanations:

Eligibility in the Statewide Context (statewide eligibility) is the pathway by which most students attain UC eligibility and is determined when a student applies to the University. To be eligible in the statewide context, students must have a high school diploma or equivalency, and satisfy certain subject, scholarship and examination requirements. To be statewide eligible, students must satisfactorily complete a specific pattern of 15 UC-approved courses by the end of the senior year, take two SAT Subject Tests and either the ACT Assessment plus Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test no later than December of their senior year, have a minimum UC GPA of 3.0 and meet the eligibility index. For more details about statewide eligibility, please visit the Freshman Admission section of the UC Admissions site.

Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC) is determined during the summer between the junior and senior years of high school. Students are notified of their eligibility in the fall semester of their senior year of high school before they apply to the University. To be eligible in the local context, a student must attend an eligible school that participates in the program, have his or her transcript submitted to UC with the high school’s ELC submission packet, satisfactorily complete a specific pattern of 11 UC-approved courses by the end of the junior year and be ranked in the top 4 percent of his or her high school class according to UC ELC evaluation rules. Students who are eligible in the local context must do the following to complete their eligibility and be admitted to the University:

* Maintain a 3.0 GPA

 • Complete all coursework requirements for freshman admission by the end of senior year
 • Take two SAT Subject Tests and either the ACT Assessment plus Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test - no later than the December test date, and
 • Apply to the University by the November 30 application deadline.

There is no pin in the letter, am I still supposed to get a pin? Or is that just ELC?
Also, what exactly IS the difference between local and state wide eligibility? Is there going to be a longer process to be state eligible, or does it just stop at the “on track?”

There is no pin in the letter, am I still supposed to get a pin?

gomeZZZ, UC’s have already sent out the general letters stating whether a student is an ELC candidate. Today, my S received his second letter, this time from UC Davis, offering ELC admission. I don’t believe a PIN (number) is forthcoming. Good luck.

No, students on track for eligibility in the statewide context do not receive a PIN. No, there is no other longer process for statewide eligibility. As long as you complete all the requirements for statewide eligibility, you will be admitted to at least one UC, usually UCM or UCR.

My D got a pin “on track”, but that was class of 08.

Hmmm… That would make sense… I guess I’m incorrect. Sorry about that. :-)

Back in '08…

wonder what UCD admissions is up to. She was really helpful.

I think the OP wants to know about Statewide Eligibility… Any links for that?

I thought you summed that up nicely!

Hahaha… Thanks, I tried. I was trying to find out if there was a PIN number for the Statewide Eligibility but I can’t find anywhere that states that. My son was ELC last year and that is a bit different. I was hoping someone would be more knowledgeable than I. :-)

I received that letter today also.
I was really confused, because a month or so ago, my counselor received the ELC results.
She called me in and told me I qualified for ELC. I got my pin and everything.
But now I am confused because I have a letter that says I am only statewide?
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Thank you.

My son received an initial letter but didn’t receive a second letter. We know someone else that received a second letter referring to UC Davis and I think another UC. What does this mean?
