I received a letter from the UCs this weekend saying I qualified for ELC (yay!!)

I have a few questions..actually my entire family does.

1) Do ELC applicants know their acceptance (to the UC they are accepted into because of ELC) before others? Like, if I got into UCSC with ELC, would I know before someone who applied to UCSC non-ELC? (I'm not phrasing this question very eloquently, hahaha)

2) If I apply only to UCs not participating in the ELC program, will I still get into, say, UCR even though I didn't apply?

3) In the letter they gave me a special username and pincode for my online application, telling me to apply using that instead of the regular link for the online application. My sister thinks that it's just to tag that I am an ELC student, but does anybody know if I'll need to apply using the regular app also? I'm guessing no, but you never know.

I could be wrong but this is what I remember:

No, I don't think ELC applicants will know of their admission status early. ELC means that you've completed all your UC requirements and are in the top 4% at your high school or something around there. ELC does not guarantee you admission anywhere.

However, if you are selected for a Regents Scholarship, you will know of that early and can pretty much bet on gaining admission unless you have any criminal history or anything like that.

I don't fully understand your question. If you qualify for ELC, you have a good chance of getting into the lower-ranked UCs like Riverside and Merced, but by no means will you randomly receive an acceptance letter if you don't apply in the first place.

I think they give you this username and pincode so that you feel special and start on your app early. And nope you won't need to apply again -- your username links you to the same app everyone else uses.

ELC does guarentee you into at least 1 UC, kinda redundant though because anyone who made it to ELC prolly knows they can get into several of the lower ranked uc's for sure.

I just looked over Uc booklet and there is no mention of finding out early. So most likely you won't recieve early notifications.

If I remember right, (my son was ELC) the online application with ELC pin is a little bit different in that some of the basic information is already in there for you...saves you a little time.
You do have to apply to any UC you want to attend and you are not guaranteed admission to the higher ranked UCs.
