So I am wondering what GPA is used to calculate ELC Status. I have not gotten the “letter” everyone is talking about for ELC. I have a 4.29 Weighted Capped and uncapped GPA. I am wondering which gpa is used to calculate ELC, Capped UC GPA or Uncapped? Thank you.
From the UC Website:
So, the ELC UC GPA is dependent upon your school. I would ask your Guidance Counselor.
UC has recalculated GPAs for a recent previous high school class to establish the ELC benchmark GPA for your high school. Your recalculated GPA is then compared against the benchmark GPA.
The UC web sites describing how ELC is determined do not specify which GPA is used, but most UC references to high school GPA refer to weighted-capped unless otherwise specified. You may want to ask your counselor which GPA is used and what the benchmark for your school is.
the worst part is that i have asked my councilors and they all tell me to read the ELC website. So idk which gpa it is, since it really isnt specified
I recall my 3 kids received a letter from their HS requesting permission to send their info to the UCs for ELC determination. Maybe your school didn’t send or is not participating.
Do you know if other students from your school receive notification. In the end, even if you are not ELC in local context, you can be ELC through the statewide path.
For Statewide Path:
There is a calculator. Google “UC statewide path admission calculator” . You can enter your stats and see if you qualify.
For ELC in local context:
“After submitting a UC application, a student from an ELC-participating school can return to the My UC Application page to see whether or not they have been designated as being in the top 9 percent of their class.”
Yes I did recieve that letter last year, but I believe that letter is to determine the bench mark GPA for ELC. I’m pretty sure I am not ELC because my school is extremely competative and I have only a 4.29
If your are ELC eligible, after you fill out the UC application and submit, it will be noted on the application.
