Elc?

Has the requirements for ELC changed at all?
I was wondering if it's top 4% of my school, or top 10%.
Any tips which allows me to better qualify for ELC would be great. =)
I am BARELY in the top 10% as of the moment right now, and if the ELC thing qualifies to only students who are in the top 4%, I would like to know ways of better qualifying myself for ELC.

here is a link from the UC Website.[University of California - Local path](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/freshman/california-residents/local-path/index.html)

if you think you qualify (or come close) check with your guidance counselor to make sure your name is submitted for consideration. This may require a parent signature allowing your school to release your transcript to the ELC program. Some schools may do this without any need for action on your part, but I wouldn’t count on it. My daughter’s high school sent us the parental signature release form around May 22nd of her junior year, and it was due back to the school early in June.

Thanks! I am in class of 2012, and I have read that things are changing, such as there is no requirement for the SAT II’s, but I will take those in my senior year. I was wondering is there anyway that a person can just AUTOMATICALLY qualify for ELC? =P What about if someone qualifies for ELC but they don’t want to go the schools that sent letters to them? Does that position go to someone else?

I checked the link and it said the top 9%. I will go talk to my counselo after spring break!

I’m not sure what you mean by automatically qualify. If you look at the website, you’ll see that UC reviews your transcript (looking at your grades and A-G course requirements) and then looks at your GPA in the context of your own high school to determine if you are ELC (Eligible in the local context.)
Historically, some UC campuses have offered automatic admission to ELC candidates.

You still need to go through the UC application process, and meet the deadlines, even if you are ELC. You don’t have to go to the schools that admit you based on ELC. My daughter got automatic ELC admission to Davis, Santa Barbara, Irvine and Riverside (I think) but is attending Berkeley.

ELC is changing a lot the upcoming year, and you definitely need to be aware of those changes. In previous years, ELC had guaranteed the top 4% of juniors admission to Davis, Santa Barbara, Irvine, and Riverside.

However, this is no longer the case. Now, ELC status is being extended to a larger percentage of students, but the are no longer guaranteed into SPECIFIC schools like they have been before. They are simply guaranteed “a” spot in the University of California, and that could be at any certain campus, like maybe Riverside or another, that much is unknown.

I personally think that this development may not be the most desirable thing, because as an applicant this last year, I used my ELC status to know that I had a specific amazing safety school that I knew I would still enjoy going to if nothing else worked out. It’s nice that more students are given this title, but the loss of more concrete benefits is unfortunate.

How long was it before we begin to receive letters from UC schools?
