Elc ?

I got a form from my school saying that they were going to send my grades to UC's. What is this all about?

My courses and grades for junior year were

AP US A A
AP CHem A A
Honors Language 3 A A
Pre Calc H A A
Span 3 A A

then basketball PE

What benefits if any would i get from this?

You are guaranteed acceptance into at least 1 UC. That's basically it.

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/local_eligibility.html

Most Berkeley undergradautes admits are usually ELC students.

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/camp_profiles_ucb.html

How do they select the UC is it just like a draw or something or do they go by your choices?

they don't guarantee anything, but they "try" to be fair/accomodating.

believe me, in the grand scheme of things, ELC won't do you much good.

just apply to a range of schools and if all else fails, as an ELC student, you'll have a place at one of the UCs.

This year the campus they admitted ELC students to was Irvine. You'll get a letter early or something.

Basically what stuckinthemist said

ic not bad i dont mind irvine at all. So when i apply this year do i still send in an application to Irvine?

well, irvine was the UC that you were guaranteed acceptance if you were an ELC student. however, you weren't guaranteed acceptance into the engineering school. anyways, if the school they choose this year is the school you might consider, you still have to submit an application to that school.

it costs like 60 bucks per school...

Santa Barbara also guaranteed acceptance to ELC students this year.
And I think that having ELC did help my son get into Cal since he was one of those "could go either way" kids.

UC Merced also guarantees acceptance for ELC students.... but you probably don't need ELC in the first place to get in... :)

So basically u just get a letter from a random UC school indicating that you will be automatically accepted?

If all the UCs that you apply end up not accepting you, then a UC that you did not apply to will take you. UCB and UCLA are the exception: they do not take you if all the UCs you applied to rejects you.
