The title pretty much says it all. Do UCLA and UCB give ELC students a leg up in admissions like all the other UCs? Or is it just that ELC students are just that much better than non ELC students and that they, strictly according to their own merits, have 55-60% acceptance rates at UCLA and UCB?

IDK look at STATS at UC Stat Finder

ELC is essentially high GPA. UCs value high GPA as the single best determinant of admissions and eventual college success.

For those interested in a simple graph which illustrates how ELCs dominate admissions at the TOP UCs, please review the third graph (scroll down) on page 1 here:

There was a related thread on how ELC dominate the ranks of the admitted and enrolled at the top UCs:

The first link doesn't work, fyi.

Which GPA do they look at? The UC GPA?

^ All. It's a comprehensive review of your transcript and how you've taken advantage of the opportunities, i.e. AP's and Honors courses, at your school. (My mom is a high school registrar, so I got an explanation of the whole thing)

So they'll look at the fact that I have 24 UC-approved honors classes (compared to the 18-19 average for admits at UCLA/UCB)?

Do they look at this in the context of your school and the other students at your school? Because even though my stats across the board are higher than the average admit in almost every category, I'm not ELC and I'm only about top 9% of my high school's senior class (I go to a private college prep school).

I fear that since I'm not at the absolute top of my school's class the UCs will look at it negatively.

The competitive UCs put curriculum high on the list of how they select the freshman class. This may help:
