Duke EE's typically have quite heavy workloads - nothing they can't handle, but quite heavy.

So, it would be possible to take the MCATs at the end of sophmore year then?

edit: what about grading?

IS101: Can you be more specific about the timetable you envisioned?

Re grading: No idea.

Well, the way I plan it, I'll have taken AP Physics, Bio and Chem by the end of senior year in high school...however, I can still take those classes in college just to get high grades. Hence, all I would need is sophmore year of organic chem. After which I can take the MCATs..if you look closely at the EE/premed curriculum (http://www.ee.duke.edu/undergrads/ee_premed.php)
there are no premed classes to be taken after sophmore year!
I also have AP Euro+Psych+USH+Comp. Gov. etc. AP credit which I can use to fill in my requirements.

Specifically, I mean:

Exactly when "at the end of sophomore year" would you plan on taking the MCATs? The way I see it, there's no reason whatsoever to take it prior to August after your soph year.

I see, what I mean is that at the end of sophmore year, I'll have finished my premed reqs...

Question: Do you think that taking the easy classes is better than using AP credit and moving on to harder courses?

Varies. Which APs? And what school? Are you actually going to Duke, or just using them as an example?

I'm just using them as an example..Im a Junior, I think I stand a good chance for Duke and maybe some other schools but I really want to go for EE/premed

Here's the MAIN AP's that I'll have:
Bio
Physics B
USH
Euro
Politics or Comp. Gov.
Psych
CS AB
Eng Lang
Eng Lit
Calc BC
Also we have an AP-level chem class which doesn't get to take the AP..

I think those are the main one's (I'll also fulfill the language credit with a 750+ on SAT II spanish)..

Except for the humanities credit...I really don't plan on using any science APs..I'd rather take them again in college and reinforce for the MCATs and get high grades

1.) Premeds should not use physics.

2.) Premeds should normally not use Chem. Duke is a potential exception.

3.) Bio is a coin toss.

4.) I'd recommend using Math and English, but those are not settled for sure.

5.) Unless I'm missing something, go ahead and use everything else.

Wow, thanks bluedevilmike. I guess I'm thinking in the right path then...I'll most probably be sticking to something similar to the curriculum shown by the Duke site, if not at Duke then somewhere else..

And with the new MCAT you can take it whenever you want after soph year considering there are about 10-15 dates during the summer.
