I got accepted to a university for Electrical Engineering (UCSD), but their Mechanical Engineering major is impacted, meaning you can't transfer into it from the outside. I know that a significant number of engineering students change majors after first year to a field more suited to them, but basically at UCSD, this wouldn't be possible. My plan was that if I wanted to pursue mechanical/aerospace, then I'd transfer to mechanical engineering and then I could do an aerospace MS, since the two are closely related. However, since that is not possible, I was wondering if a BS in electrical engineering could lead to grad school in aerospace engineering?

Also, just out of curiousity, which fields of engineering could a BS in electrical lead to? And for mechanical? I'm just trying to map out all the options.

I have the same question as you. Bachlors in EE and MS in Aerospace Eng. WOndering if that’s possible. I would think it would be but just need some confirmation.

I don’t know about BSEE+MSAE. But a BSEE + MS in Mechanical is definitely more feasible. To me, it is actually better because a MS in Mechanical is not going to confine you to just the aerospace industry.

Most MSc programs are 1 year but comng from a EE background, you might have to take some extra classes to top up that MSc in AE.

AE Eng is very specific to the Aviation industry though. I have heard of BS EE to MS ME which opens a lot more doors.

But I did some research and although it’s not a common pathway to go from EE to MSc in AE is happens often with people with a strong EE background who wants to work in the aviation industry so they so the extra classes (2-3) and get an MSc in AE
